LONDON - (Business Wire) Mobile phone Xchange are pleased to announce that their mobile phone recycling partnership with News of the World’s Go Green and Save campaign has now paid out £1 million pounds to their readers.
The Sunday paper launched the eco-crusade last year to buy used mobiles from their readers who get money or high street store vouchers in return. Mobile Phone Xchange provide all the technology and logistics allowing News of the World readers to sell thousands of used mobile phones.
This past week, 57-year old Barbara Cooper took the campaign total over the million pound payout mark when she sold her unwanted Blackberry Pearl 8100. As an additional reward for recycling her phone, she was given a cheque for £1,000 and an iPhone, as well as vouchers for her phone trade-in worth £31.
Barbara told News of the World: “Like most Brits I do care about the planet but I also have to watch the pennies. So I’m for anything that helps me do my bit and doesn’t cost me. And recycling my phone even left me with money in my purse. Not only that, it meant less waste for landfill. Plus old handsets will be sent to Third World families – who would otherwise buy new ones – meaning fewer have to be made.”
Britain is responsible for hoarding 80 million unwanted handsets according to experts. If recycled, they could ease the pressure on bulging landfills as well as earning sellers extra cash, or store vouchers like Barbara who went on a shopping spree in Debenhams with her trade-in reward.
The Go Green and Save campaign has helped to create awareness among people about the procedure of mobile phone recycling. For this purpose, News of the World created www.notwbuyback.co.uk, powered by mobilephonexchange.co.uk
Steve Wharton, new business development at mobilephonexchange.co.uk stated: “We have been delighted with our partnership with News International. Our white label solutions were specifically designed to allow large consumer facing companies to deliver the value in used mobile phones to their customers and no one has done that better than News of the World.”
